Context

School leadership has never been an easy task. The challenges posed by the recent global pandemic emphasised this even more. In the ‘aftermath’ it is fair to say that our School Leaders are now facing new challenges.

Many norms adopted to survive during the pandemic are no longer necessary. Yet, it would appear that many schools are struggling to help staff remember what life was like before COVID and how adults behaved before directives, bubbles, and remote learning became the norm.

Indeed, schools are now discovering that there are long-term effects of COVID that are impacting school culture and that these long-term effects can be just as deleterious as long-COVID. These long-term effects are presenting amongst some staff as:

  • Fatigue and burnout
  • A reduced sense of agency, ownership and willingness to go “the extra mile”
  • Increased disconnection with their purpose and sense of vocation
  • Lowered morale
  • A loss of collegiality

We are all human and these are understandable responses to the trauma of the past few years. However, left unaddressed, they can significantly impact school performance and staff’s ability to work effectively as a team and to problem solve for themselves.

A direct consequence is that senior leaders can find their workload increasing. As staff (maintaining a pandemic mindset) still feel they need to be directed and told what to do.

That’s why our Essential Coaching Skills Programme has been designed to help School Leaders address these specific challenges and develop the skills necessary to empower and enable others.

Programme Overview

The programme is one of the UK’s foremost coaching certifications for Headteachers and Senior School Leaders.

Endorsed and accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management, upon enrolment, participants also receive FREE 12-month studying membership from the Institute.

Spread over four days, the programme is designed to accommodate the busy lives of School Leaders and equip them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to utilise coaching as part of their leadership roles.

Over the programme, participants learn a range of coaching techniques and tools that can be used to improve and address the performance of those they lead and manage and support the well-being of their school team.

The programme is also designed to provide a learning space that enables participants to practice new techniques and hone their new coaching skills.

Additionally, the programme provides a solid foundation for leaders wanting to understand how to develop and embed a supportive coaching culture in their school.

On completion of the programme participants receive certification from the Institute of Leadership & Management.

Our Essential Coaching Skills Programme will equip you with the skills for:

  • Managing difficult conversations and challenging behaviours
  • Better understanding your team and how you can get the best out of individuals
  • Facilitating better teamwork and minimising team conflict
  • Identifying and managing a range of personality types.
  • Nurturing positive, effective and supportive school relationships

Programme Outline

At the end of day 2, time will be spent identifying two colleagues that individuals will work with in between days 3 & 4.

Participants will identify how they can utilise new coaching knowledge and skills gained from days 1 & 2 to support the development of members of staff that they lead and manage.
